Devco, along with the entire Houston Interests Group, is excited to announce that the 1 million ton per year sulfur melter facility and material handling system designed and supplied to Mosaic on a Lump sum, turn-key basis has been officially commissioned and is operating successfully at the plant in Central Florida. The melter facility, which we have written about previously here, is now the world’s largest single vessel melter.
Devco was initially awarded the project in 2014 after proposing a unique, Engineer-lead EPC solution to Mosaic for their project. In addition to the melting equipment, other packages supplied include a 6,000 ton concrete sulfur storage silo, a lime silo for controlling acidity, a full material handling package including truck loading and unloading, and conveying, a scrubber system, and filter system. During construction there were 253 people on site with a total of 135,000 engineering hours, 100,000 fabrication hours, and over 300,000 construction hours. This project is Devco’s largest award to date.
Pictured above are the Bronze Safety Award presented to Devco by Mosaic, shown in front of the New Wales Sulfur Melting Facility, as well as Devco's Mark Gilbreath and Mike Patena as the accepted the award.
In addition to the plant start-up, we are also proud to announce that Mosaic presented Devco with a Bronze Safety award during their annual contractor safety meeting and presentation on April 26. Congratulations to each individual who made this safety award possible. Bronze award recognizes a very high level of safe practice achievement working on Mosaic sites. This is also the highest award Devco is eligible for during our first year of major work for Mosaic. Gold awards will be achieved after five consecutive years of highest levels of safety practice goals for Mosaic. This award places Devco among Mosaic's select and highly regarded companies. Houston Interests joins Mosaic in making safety our very highest priority in completion of our work.
With approximately 9,000 employees in 6 countries, and annual capacity greater than the next two largest producers combined, Mosaic is the world’s largest producer of finished phosphate products. Approximately one-third of their phosphate product is shipped within North America, with the remainder exported globally through their own distribution channels. (www.mosaicco.com)
